Part 2: Otherware

Overview

Robots, chatbots, voice assistants, machine-learning powered artefacts, and self-driving cars all differ from what we normally consider a tool. Tools are extensions of our bodies and mind, we control them. Robots and the like are counterparts rather. They are artificial others (“otherware”), no matter how limited their autonomy appears. This fundamentally changes the way we relate to and interact with these systems. This webinar highlights the possibilities and pitfalls of designing technology as “other”(ware).
