This report effectively represents the culmination of the CAAâs helideck lighting research programme, funded by the CAAâs Safety and Airspace Regulation Group (SARG), the Offshore Division of the UK Health and Safety Executive, and Oil and Gas UK. The flight trials campaigns at the NAM K14 platform, Longside Airfield and at Norwich Airport, reported in CAA Papers 2004/01, 2005/01 and 2006/03 respectively, provided the data and experience to enable a draft technical specification to be produced. The specification was then used to tender for the production of prototype lighting systems for installation on offshore helidecks for in-service trials to validate the specification.
