On 23 July 2014, a Trans Asia Airways ATR 72-500 operating a domestic passenger flight from Kaohsiung to Pengdu Island crashed after commencing a go around from a night VOR approach to runway 20 at its destination and the aircraft was destroyed. Most of the 58 occupants, including all 4 crew members, were killed but there were 10 seriously injured survivors. Buildings on the ground were destroyed and five people on the ground sustained minor injuries. An Investigation is being carried out by the Taiwan Aviation Safety Council.
