Definition
An Unmanned Aircraft Pilot (UAP) is the individual controlling a remotely piloted aircraft. Also referred to as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Pilot, or more colloquially, as a drone operator. A UAP flies the aircraft from a Ground Control Station (GCS).
Like pilots of manned aircraft, UAPs are subject to licensing, training, and currency requirements. Certain sophisticated RPAS aircraft, such as the Predator and Global Hawk military drones, may be operated by multiple crew members.
