Operations Control Centre (OCC)
Operations Control Centre (OCC)
Description
The Operations Control Centre (OCC) is a facility that plans, monitors, coordinates and manages various aspects of an airline's day-to-day activities. Its primary task is to ensure that operations run smoothly, efficiently and safely.
The responsibilities of an OCC include:
- Flight planning. Planning and scheduling are crucial for efficient airline operations. Normally, specialised software is used for this purpose. It takes into account multiple factors such as weather, airspace restrictions, route charges, crew schedules, etc.
- Data collection and monitoring. Aircraft and their parameters are monitored in real time so that in case of an abnormal situation the best course of action can be taken.
- Decision-making. When a situation arises (whether a safety-related issue or a logistical challenge), the OCC decides on the best course of action and advises the affected flight crews.
- Crew management. Due to various regulations, the process of crew management is very complex. Factors such as duty and rest times, leaves and flight scheduling need to be considered for optimal use of the available human resource.
- Maintenance coordination. The OCC oversees maintenance schedules and coordinates unscheduled repairs so that aircraft are airworthy and able to follow their shcedule.
